Lyrics
Something to Give
the sun’s coming up on our little town
I can smell the coffee – it’s almost done
time moves slow like the river below
swelled with summer rain
I’ve got the love of my life holding my hand
making our way in a traveling band
from town to town and door to door
sometimes it’s nice just to be at home
chorus:
some plant seeds and work the fields so they ripen every day
some build schools and teach the young not to waste their lives away
some sing songs that tell the truth and show us how to live
so dig down deep and make a stand because we/you all have something to give
the market vendor sells us beans
that are pure, organic and chemical-free
the doctor finds the source of the pain and does what she can do
the actor brings a tear to our eye, and then makes us laugh until we cry
and the poet finds the words for us when all words fail
chorus
bridge:
what is inside us
is something only we can know
what do we have worth the giving?
so Eric paints a line of trees
but it’s more than branches, it’s more than leaves
it’s something deep inside ourselves that has to breathe
and Dana takes the hurt away
Nicholas helps us find our way
Suzan brings a smile to those who can’t remember anymore
Sharon sings a tender song, Deanna helps make women strong
and Denise just gives and gives; they all know what the giving’s for
chorus
the sun’s coming up on your little town
you can smell the coffee – it’s almost done
time moves slow like the river below
swelled with summer rain
