Lyrics

Evening Song

the last light is fading
on the pearled nests of white
in the cloud-dappled sky
the golden laughing wheat
once asway on the breeze
lies bent to the arm of the sickle
go to sleep now
even the sun has shut her tired eye

these whispering fields have a story to tell
and the stones, their traveler’s tale
for just like the river
they are different every day
so much wind
so much rain
go to sleep now
even the sun has shut her tired eye
go to sleep now
evening has closed her heavy lid

rest your head on your pillow
and quiet your mind
you will still hear the wind in the trees
and the last bird will sing
its lonely, graceful note
over your dreaming face
go to sleep now
even the sun has shut her tired eye
go to sleep now
evening has closed her heavy lid
go to sleep now
go to sleep now
